While completing my graduate work, I was fortunate to work with a number of terrific people in various capacities on a wide range of research projects. I had the good fortune to work for many years with the late Dr. Vanda Rideout, Professor of Sociology at the University of New Brunswick (UNB). From 2013 until Dr. Rideout’s death in early 2016, I was project coordinator and a research associate on the “Measuring high-tech digital skilled workers in New Brunswick’s Information and Communication Technology Sector” project, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). In that project, which examined the nature and quality of employment in the New Brunswick information technology sector, I managed project logistics and communications, contributed to instrument design, ran the research pilot, conducted data collection and analysis, and made presentations about our preliminary findings. In the past, I played similar roles in Dr. Rideout’s Community Intermediaries Research Project (2004-2006), which examined the uses of communication technology in the health sector, and the Information Society Inequalities in Atlantic Canada study (2002-2003), which looked at digital divides. In early 2013, I assisted Dr. Jacki Low from Sociology at UNB on her research into Alternative Level Care Patients, a study designed to ascertain the home support needs of seniors in New Brunswick. From June 2011 to July 2013, I supported Jennifer Philips, Project Manager of the Maritime Early Literacy Team with project logistics, data collection and coordinating the Advisory Committee. Funding for this project, which was designed to evaluate early literacy projects in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, came from the Canadian Institute of Health Research.

I was first hired as a Research Assistant in the e-Government group at the National Research Council, Institute of Information Technologies (NRC-IIT) in the summer of 2003. I was rehired on a succession of contracts from 2006 to 2011 as part of the People-Centred Technologies Group, during which I worked on a variety of research projects with various research officers. In that time I conducted literature reviews, organized research schedules, participated in data collection and analysis, was lead and contributing author and editor on publications, presentations, reports and funding proposals.

In addition to research, I have organized and run aspects of different conferences. As local arrangements coordinator, I was able to provide support for the Program Chairs and organize pre-conference events at the NRC-IIT as part of CONGRESS 2011. I also maintained communications, reviewed papers and was responsible for all local arrangements and events for the 2008 International Symposium on Technology and Society held at the NRC-IIT and UNB. In 2007-2008, I provided organizational and logistical support to the co-chairs of the Qualitatives conference, which was held at UNB and Saint Thomas University (STU). For the 2006 International Conference on e-Commerce, I coordinated registration, conference materials, social activities and the volunteer schedule.
